| Played piano and guitar guitar from 8 years of age, classical piano from 16 years of age, studied double bass from the age of 23. Studied with a.o. Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Mads Vinding and Hugo Rasmussen. Graduated from Rhytmic Music Conservatorium 1990. Further study with Eddie Gomez, Ray Brown and Arild Andersen. Studied composition/arrangement with Butch Lacy, Ole Kock Hansen and Ernie Wilkins.
Part of the JAZZPAR 1991 og 1992 prize concerts with David Murray , Muhal Richard Abhrams and Pierre Dørge's New Jungle Orchestra (ENJA RECORDS). Recorded with a.o. Horace Parlan, Andy Sheppard, Audun Kleive, Marilyn Mazur, Palle Mikkelborg, Jesper Thilo, Ole Kock Hansen, Bobo Moreno, Ulla Henningsen, Jonas Johansen, Jacob Fischer and Christina von Bülow.
1994 member of the EBU Big Band housed in Amsterdam. 2001 joined John Tchicai's band. Since 1988 member of Christina von Bülow's trio, member of Maj-Britt Kramer Trio, Co-leader of the HESS/SKOU Qvartet and leading the Jens Skou Olsen Group. Since 1999 member of the Finn Ziegler Quartet.
Furthermore played with a.o. Harry "Sweets" Edison, Lee Konitz, Hugo Rasmusssen, Jan Allan, Rune Gustavsson, Ed Neumeister, John Tchicai, Ben Besiakow, Anders Kjellberg, Svend-Erik Nørregård, Alex Riel, Jørgen Emborg, Bob Rockwell, Tomas Franck, Etta og Debbie Cameron. 1992, 1994 and 1998 stays in New York and Syd-Afrika.
Since 1997 appointed Associate Professor at the Rhytmic Music Conservatorium in Copenhagen. 1999 visiting professor at Musikhögskolan in Gothenburg. 2003 visiting professor at the FIH conservatory in Iceland. 2005 visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Barcelona Music Concervatory. |
Drummer, percussionist , educator
and composer graduated from Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen
in 1992. Received the Danish Ben Webster Prize in 1998. Currently
she plays with a.o. Marilyn Mazur Percussion Paradise, Andy Sheppard/Marie
Bergmann/Maj-britt Kramer and well known Danish groups like Sophisticated
ladies and violinist Finn Ziegler’s Quartet.
Together with saxophonist Christina von Bülow she leads "The stone
of happiness" – music and theatre for kids. And she is working
with African music in "Another World" with a.o. Aye Solomon and
Master drummer Okyerema Pra from Ghana.
She also teaches drums and pedagogy at the Danish Rhythmic Conservatory
in Copenhagen.
During the years she has also collaborated with John Tchicai :
1990 Jazzpar concert with Muhal Richard Abrahms/Tchicai Quintet,
1991 Kaliz festival Polen Tchicai/Vitold Rek Quintet, 1998 cd
recording in USA with Tchicai and a.o. Fred Hopkins – "Love notes
from the Madhouse", 2001 church koncerts – "Hymne to Sofia" composed
by Tchicai. Played on Jazzpar tour 2001 with Marilyn Mazur and
a.o. Palle Mikkelborg, Anders Jormin, Frederik Lundin and Josefine
Cronholm. And at The London Jazzfestival 2002 trio with Anders
Jormin and David Okumu.
For more than 10 years she played with the singer and trombonist
Richard Boone (member of the Count Basie Bigband) in the group
Richard Boone & The Sophisticated Ladies. The group made a cd
called "Copenhagen sing your Song" 1993. She has also performed
with a.o. Johnny Griffin, Teddy Edwards, Leo Wright, Idrees Sulieman,
Bob Rockwell, Duke Jordan, Thomas Franck, the Swedish group Dr.
Dingo with a.o. Anders Jormin, New Danish Saxophone Quartet and
many Danish musicians such as Ben Besiakov, Jacob Fisher, Hugo
Rasmussen, Jesper Lundgaard, Jesper Thilo, Bent Jædig, Thomas
Agergaard and Jan Kaspersen, Christina Nielsen, Pernille Bevort
og Christina von Bülow.
She has toured in most of Europe and also played in USA, China
and Africa. |
Christina concluded her 4 year study at the Rhytmic Music Conservatory with a 2 month stay with Stan Getz in Californa. She has since then played in numerous constellations, among others Lee Konitz, Jan Allan, Rune Gustafson, Herlin Riley, Allan Botschinsky, Marilyn Mazur, Doug Raney, Ib Glindeman Big Band and the Dansish Radio Big Band.
She is a member of a.o. the Maria Quattro Bossa Group. Winner of the 1994 JASA critics prize.
